Telecom service provider, Airtel Africa has appointed Michael Nii Boye Adjei the new managing director for its Rwanda operations. The firm said the appointment is part of a strategic plan to drive the company’s leadership and build its growing brand, as well as, expand its 4G footprint.
Adjei replaces Teddy Bhullar, who now moves to Emtel Mauritius as new managing director, Airtel Africa CEO Christian de Faria said in a statement.
"This appointment underlines Airtel’s commitment to significantly improve access to services, as well as connecting millions of our Africa consumers to the Internet. In Adjei, I am confident that Airtel Rwanda will continue to enhance the benefits of telecommunication services for Rwandans.”
He said Adjei will continue the firm’s plans to increase access to mobile commerce services.
Adjei was unveiled on Wednesday as Airtel Rwanda concluded its Airtel Tunga promotion at the telecoms head offices in Remera, Gasabo District in Kigali.
Who is Adjei
Adjei has worked with Unilever Ghana from 2000 to 2003 as the trade marketing manager, and later, as the regional sales manager between 2003 and 2004 before becoming category manager from 2005 to 2006. From Unilever, he joined Millicom (Tigo) Ghana as the territory manager in 2006 and in 2008 he was appointed the head of sales and distribution before moving to Vodafone as head of sales, retail and partner markets in 2010.
Meanwhile, Nduwayezu Juvens was announced final winner of the Airtel Tunga promotion. The Kacyiru-based businessman, who won promo’s twelfth motorcycle, said he joined the Airtel network just over a month ago. While handing over the motorcycle, Adjei thanked subscribers for their support and loyalty.
He said the firm will continue to invest in infrastructure development to further improve service delivery, as well as offer innovative products and services that meet customers needs.
Airtel is in the final stages of rolling out cross-border mobile money transfer services, which should be Adjei’s top priority to ensure the telecom firm becomes more competitive locally and in the region.
The Airtel Tunga promotion has been running for three months.
