Emmanuel Havugimana won five individuals medals as Kimisagara-based Tiger Wushu Club won the National Kung-fu Championship held on Sunday at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Havugimana won two gold medals in Nanquan and Zangji Changquan respectively, one silver medal in Gun shou C, and two bronze medals in Gun shou S and Daoshu respectively.

"I am happy to win five medals, it is a reward for the hard work that we have put in training in preparations for this championship, I like this sport, and I am going to train even harder,” Havugimana told Times Sport after the one-day competition that attracted 15 clubs.

Tiger Wushu Club finished top of the medal standing with 12 medals (8 gold, two silver and two bronze), Tsen Club came on second position with five medals (1 gold and four silver) while Kigali Wushu Club followed in third place with one silver and three bronze medals respectively.

Rosine Arakaza from Dragon Wushu and Rachel Niyigena of Tiger Wushu Club were awarded medals for the best female performers.

In Sanda, 55-60kg, Emile Habumugisha of Issa Club defeated Black Eagles’ Etienne Dushimimana, while Silas Habimana (Conficius Club) beat Alexandre Turatsinze from Kigali Shaolin in the 61-65kg final.

In the 66-70kg category, Tiger Wushu Club’s Fulgence Bizimana beat Abdou Uzabakiriho of Muhanga Tiger Club, and Alexis Nshimiyimana from Tiger Wushu Club overpowered Tsen Club’s Jean Damascene Rugina to win the 71-75kg gold medal.

The competition attracted a total of 113 players and 15 teams namely; Kigali Kungfu Wushu Kimisagara, Tiger Wushu Kimisagara, Kigali Shaolin Temple, Mantis Club, Dragon Kungfu Wushu, Kist Club, Po Chilam, Kabuga Ging Wushu, Issa Sport Club, Rubavu Shaolin Temple, Musanze Shaolin Temple, Muhanga Tiger Club, Kibuye Kungfu Club, Black Eagles Kibungo and Tsen Club.
