Sinks $17,000 in prestigious event

Rwanda’s most prestigious and celebrated golf tournament; the Rwanda Open has been branded ‘Mützig Rwanda Open’ after a refreshing $17,000 cash package from Bralirwa.

During a press conference held at the company’s headquarters in Gikondo, Alexander P.J.L. KOCH, the company commercial director told Times Sport that it was the company’s motive to strengthen their bond with the golfers in Rwanda since both Mützig and golf share a common origin (Europe).

Kigali Golf Club (KGC) president Jack Kayonga was full of praise for Bralirwa for their financial boost saying that it was timely and that it would give the tournament more relevance.

"We thank Bralirwa for this offer. They are one of our key sponsors and it’s great to have them on board,” said a cheerful Kayonga.

The revamped tournament is set to tee off on November 6 with over 80 golfers taking part in the amateur and professional categories.

Rwanda being hosts will contribute the lion’s share of golfers although Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi are all expected to send participants.

For a second year running, the tournament will attract 15 professionals who will have a four-day run at the Kigali Golf Course-Nyarutarama.

The main event (amateurs) will be played over three days (54-holes) and with stroke play as the mode of play.

Bralirwa’s contribution caps up what has been a very productive contribution to the sport this year.

The company has dominated golf headlines throughout this year for staging a year-long monthly mug competition similar to the 2006 and 2007 BCR monthly mug competitions.
