Nyanza District executive secretary, John Habimana Kayijuka, is expected to appear in Huye Intermediate Court tomorrow over alleged connivance in the alleged embezzlement of over Rwf50 million district funds.

The National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) spokesman Alain Mukurarinda told The New Times on Friday that the suspect was arrested on November 2 following a dossier compiled by the Police.

The suspect was detained at Ngoma Police Station in Huye and was formally charged last Friday.

"The prosecution summoned him for interrogation and it took a decision to arrest him as investigations go on,” he said.

Mukurarinda said prosecution discovered that the director of administration and finance, Jean Damascène Nsabihoraho, is the prime suspect in the case.

Prosecution alleges that Nsabihoraho embezzled funds twice, but on the third time, he wrote a payment order in his name and account and the executive secretary authorised payment.

"Therefore, he (the executive secretary) is pursued over complicity in embezzlement of public of funds because he signed on the payment order and the money was cashed into the director of administration and finance’s account who withdrew the funds,” Mukurarinda said.

He said overall Nsabihoraho is suspected of swindling Rwf58 million and the executive secretary signed payment order of over Rwf20 million.

Mukurarinda said the director of administration and finance is on the run and that investigations are still ongoing.
