Emmanuel Musabyimana has taken over as president of Azam Rwanda Premier League side AS Muhanga following the resignation of David Nshimiyimana this week.

Nshimiyimana announced was stepping down during an extraordinary general assembly amid the team’s continued poor performance in the league. The club has also straggled to pay salaries to players and staff.

Nshimiyimana revealed that he was leaving because he was getting insufficient support from club management and could not take all club responsibilities on his own.

"There was a lot on my shoulders, and I felt I couldn’t I continue carrying the burden on my own anymore, that is why I decided to step down as the club president. I’m not abandoning the club; I will be available to offer my support to help the club avoid relegation,” Nshimiyimana said.

The 2013 Peace Cup finalists, AS Muhanga, who were relegated to second division league at the end of the 2013/2014 season, were handed wild card comeback to topflight league, along with Etincelles FC, barely two weeks before the start of the 2015/16 campaign that kicked-off on September 18.

According to tentative information, the club will hold fresh elections to elect a new executive committee later this month.

This is not the first time that AS Muhanga is hit by financial crisis, in May 2014, the club, under coach Ali Bizimungu, boycotted the final league game against eventual champions APR over unpaid arrears.

Currently, Edouard Rutayisire’s straggling AS Muhanga are bottom of the league table standings with one point after eight rounds of matches and remains favourites for the drop to the second tier league.
