The 2015 Rwanda golf Open scheduled for November 11-14 at the Kigali Golf Club in Nyarutarama will attract over 150 local and regional golfers, according to the Rwanda Golf Union secretary general, Dr. Davis Kashaka.

Golfers, in both amateurs and professional categories, will come from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, DR Congo and hosts Rwanda.

Some of the elite players expected to grace this year’s edition include; Rwanda’s top three professions; Jean Baptiste Hakizimana (reigning champion), who is currently based in the United States, Emmanuel Ruterana, Ernest Ndayisaba as well as Uganda’s Deo Akope and Kenya’s ace David Ojambo.

Karegeya revealed that the majority of the participants (about 80) will take part in the subsidiary event which will start tomorrow (November 6-7). "Everything is in place to facilitate the smooth running of the tournament and everyone is welcome to take part,” said Karegeya.

He also noted that the tournament will comprise different categories in the two events (subsidiary and the main event) to facilitate the different levels of golfers and these include men handicap between 10-28 and ladies (all handicaps) in the subsidiary event.

While the main event will comprise of the men handicap 9 and below, the men seniors’ category will comprise of those aged 55 years and above as well as the professional category.

Last year, the tournament was won by Rwandans in both the amateurs and professional categories with Emmanuel Rutayisire winning the amateurs title while Jean Baptiste Hakizimana won the professionals title.
