GICUMBI — The Anglican Church of Rwanda has elected two new bishops.

During the elections conducted last week at Byumba Anglican Church, Rev. Augustine Ahimana and Rev. Nathan Gasatura were unanimously elected to head the newly created Kivu Diocese and Butare Diocese respectively.

Bishop Gasatura replaces Bishop Venuste Mutiganda who went to Europe for further studies.

The elections were presided over by the leader of the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini.

In his message, Archbishop Kolini urged the new Bishops to serve Christians with dedication in order to foster love and unity among Rwandans.

"The Church has done the needful and through this process, the new  Bishops will be required to cultivate the path for leading the flock to green pastures and steer the growth of the Rwandan nation,” said Archbishop Kolini.

Grace Mugabe, the Church’s spokesperson said that the Anglican Church is prepared to restore the dignity of the Church that was ruined during 1994 Rwandan Genocide.

"This is the right time to put everything in order, because Rwanda has adequate peace and stability,” said Mugabe.

Also present during elections was the church’s bishop of Byumba Diocese Onesphore Rwaje.
