KIGALI - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza yesterday appealed to jurists to execute their duties with utmost professionalism to ensure that Rwandans get justice. He was giving a keynote address at the swearing-in ceremony of a military high court judge, military and civilian prosecutors."The judiciary is one of the fundamental areas envisaged in the President’s manifesto and it is you who have to ensure that justice is delivered to people,” Makuza told the jurists who took their oaths at his office.

Lt. Claude Kaberuka was sworn in as a Military High Court judge, while Capt. Raoul Bazatoha and Staff. Sgt. Jean Pierre Kayihura took the oath as military prosecutors.

Josuin Ruhamiriza was sworn in as prosecutor at lower instance level. Makuza asked them to speed up their respective duties to avoid a backlog of cases.  "You have the duty to guarantee that trials and investigations are speeded up to ensure that justice is delivered in a short time,” he said.

The premier however said that people should also lend a hand to judicial officials to help them execute their duties.

He also called on the entire Rwandan community to support the legal fraternity.

The judge is constitutionally appointed by the High Council of the Judiciary which is chaired by the Chief Justice while prosecutors are appointed by the High Council of Prosecution.
