Ecobank has donated scholastic materials worth Rfw7 million to Nyundo Primary School in Bunyongombe village, Ruhango sector, in Ruhango district. The donation comes amidst ongoing efforts to promote reading at an early age.

Speaking during the handover on Saturday, Barbara Bwandinga, the head of operations at Ecobank Rwanda, said that giving back to the community is in line with the bank’s annual programme of supporting various government programmes.

"Every October, we select one government programme to support. Last year we supported the health sector but this time round we have chosen education because we believe it is vital for the development of all citizens,” Bwandinga said.

Among the materials donated are books written in French, English, Swahili and Kinyarwanda. Others include computers and financial assistance worth Rwf 2 million.

During the same event, the bank officially launched the new school library where the donated equipment was installed.

Collette Mutuyimana, the headmistress of Nyundo Primary School, commended the bank for providing a foundation for development of academics in the school.

"Our teachers will now have where to do research and preps from and gain more knowledge to teach the pupils. Also, students will have a chance to visit the library to read the books and use the computers,’ she said.

Francois-Xavier Mbabazi, the mayor of Ruhango, thanked the bank for the support and urged them to continue working with the district administration regarding development-related matters.
