Etincelles snatch first win of season

Etincelles head coach Ibrahim Kizito has hailed his players following their first win of the season. Etincelles beat AS Muhanga 1-0 to secure their first win of the season in the Azam Rwanda Premier League on Sunday at Tam Tam stadium in Rubavu.

Etincelles head coach Ibrahim Kizito has hailed his players following their first win of the season. Etincelles beat AS Muhanga 1-0 to secure their first win of the season in the Azam Rwanda Premier League on Sunday at Tam Tam stadium in Rubavu.

Striker Ramadan Ndayisenga scored the lone goal in the 75th minute to give Kizito’s side the first win in six matchesplayed so far. However, despite the win, Etincelles remain 15th on the table with four points, while AS Muhanga are bottom with just a solitary point.

Kizito said: "We are delighted to get our first of the season. The players gave their best to get this win. I am looking forward to the next matches because we want to secure more wins to save our season.”

Etincelles next match is against Kiyovu. "I know it will be tougher than what we have faced today (against AS Muhanga), but we will give our best to get a good result.  Our aim is to stay in the league and we are going to fight until the end of the season,” the Uganda-born tactician explained.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali secured a point from their goalless draw against SC Kiyovu at Mumena stadium to move top of the league table standings.

AS Kigali top the table with 12 points, level with André Casa Mbungo’s Police FC, but the former have a superior goal difference. SC Kiyovu remains in 5th position with 10 points.

Defending champions APR are in third position with 11 points following the goalless draw against archrivals Rayon Sports on Saturday at Amahoro national stadium. The Nyanza-based Rayon Sports are in 7th position with nine points.

Emmanuel Ruremesha’s Gicumbi FC were also held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Mukura Victory Sports to stay in 8th position with nine points whereas Mukura are sixth with 10 points.
