EASTERN PROVINCE

BUGESERA—Hundreds of residents walked in solidarity Sunday in appreciation for the government resolve to construct tarmac roads for in the sector.

The 13-kilometre trek that started in morning from Nyabarongo bridge to Nyamata town was led by district leaders and attracted motorists, bringing business to a standstill.

"This road had been elusive [to pavement] for long right from all the previous governments,” said vice-mayor Silas Nyirindekwe.

"But we shall not keep admiring the road, there is so much that we can do to reap the benefits that come with the road.”

Yet the road may be a mixed blessing for residents, as it will certainly lead to a drastic hike in traffic, and the dangers that come along with it.

Nyirindekwe urged road users to observe pedestrian side ways in order to curtail the growing occurrence of accidents.

He further asked residents to take the responsibility of not blocking the drainage system to prevent flooding waters and crop destruction.
