Three local players have confirmed they will compete in the forthcoming Uganda Open tournament slated for November 2-7 at the Lugogo courts in Kampala.
The tournament returns for the first time since 2013 when Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa (RIP) defeated his counterpart, Dieudonne Habiyambere in an all-Rwandan final to win the title at the Kampala Club.
Habiyambere, the current Rwanda number one, will lead the team that also includes; second seed Olivier Havugimana as well as the women’s top seed Megane Ingabire.
"(As always), the target will be to claim both titles (men and women) and we are optimistic we shall do it because we have a good record there (Uganda),” said Habiyambere.
A total of over 80 players both local and foreigners from six countries including Rwanda, Uganda (hosts), Kenya, Burundi, DR Congo, Zimbabwe and Tanzania, are expected to compete in the event, according to the organizers, the Uganda Tennis Association.
