The Minister of Health, Dr Agnès Binagwaho, has won the Roux Prize worth $100,000 (approx Rwf74 million) for her contribution in turning data and evidence into health impact.

Binagwaho becomes the second winner after a Harvard-trained epidemiologist and mayor of Cali, Colombia, Dr. Rodrigo Guerrero.

Guerrero won the prize for using scientific detective work to determine the factors driving violence, the number-one cause of early death and disability in Colombia.

Dr Binagwaho will today be presented with the Roux Prize at a ceremony in Washington, DC, according to a statement.

The Roux prize was launched in 2013 by founding board members David Roux and his wife Barbara and is awarded by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington.
