A total of 35 local Academy coaches are currently undergoing a FIFA grassroots football Coaching Course at Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) headquarters in Remera. The clinic started on Monday and ends Saturday.

The six-day course was initiated by the World football governing body (FIFA) in partnership with the National Football Federation (FERWAFA) in a bid to develop youthful football in the country through training coaches who will pass these tactics down to young players from different technical centres as a way to tap, nurture and groom talent in the country.

In an interview with Times Sport, FERWAFA President Vincent Nzamwita urged the coaches to use the knowledge gained from the training clinic in scouting and selecting raw talented youngsters around the country.

"This course will help you enlarge the base of talented football players thus making an impact in the future of football in our country,” Nzabamwita said.

The course is being attended by 35 participants including FERWAFA Assistant Technical Director Jimmy Mulisa, FERWAFA provincial coordinators and six women coaches.

FIFA instructor Dominque Niyonzima from Burundi is conducting the six-day course which will cover practical and theoretical training in the areas of grassroots football to enable the participants to instruct their colleagues to run grassroots activities in their own training centres and provinces.

"This course is very much in line with the philosophy of further enhancing grassroots activities through the preparation of instructors armed with the means and methods to work in the training of coaches,” Niyonzima noted.
