Right Guards Cricket Club started their UAE Exchange & Xpress Money 50-over Premier League title defence with a seven-run win against new entrants Kerala Hunters CC on Sunday at Kicukiro cricket ground.
After winning the toss, Kerala Hunter’s captain Pravith Presanaraj opted to bowl. This strategy worked well for them as they limited Right Guards’ batsmen to just 148 runs in 35.5 overs.
Eric Dusingizimana (28) and Joshua Mwanja (24) were the only batters with scores of over 20 runs.
In the second innings, Right Guards’ bowling prowess led by fast bowler Freddy Ndayisenga and spinner Don de due Mugisha delivered the win.
Shrutin Padayadi batted with maturity to score 41 runs but ran out of partners. Needing just 7 runs to win, Denlie Davis was run out by Joseph Karemera when the dual wanted to force two runs to keep Shrutin on strike. Shrutin was named the man of match.
With the win, Right Guards top group A with 3 points. Group B games start next weekend with last year’s runners up Indorwa CC facing Telugu Royals CC.
