Mukura Victory Sports long-serving assistant coach Felix Muvunyi has confirmed his departure from the Huye-based club on mutual grounds after 12 years with the Azam Rwanda Premier League side.

Muvunyi joined the four-time winners of Coupe du 05 Juillet (now Peace Cup) in 2003 as a player scoring only six goals in his seven-year spell at the club before hanging his boots in 2010. He was appointed assistant coach in 2011.

While confirming his departure, Muvunyi, confessed the decision to quit has been the toughest during the 12 years he has been with the club.

He revealed that, "I am leaving Mukura with immediate effect because of family matters. You see my family lives in Kigali and that calls for me to commute more often between (Kigali and Huye), which has taken a tall on me.”

"I have no problem with the club whatsoever; it is only family issues that required much of my time and presence, which could not allow me to continue working for club that I have served for 12 years,” Muvunyi told Times Sport on Tuesday.

In a separate interview, Mukura VS secretary general, Sheik Hamdan Habimana confirmed that the club received Muvunyi’s resignation letter on October 8.

"He has been very influential to the club and it’s a great loss to us but we had to accept his decision, and we wihs him well in his future plans,” said Habimana.

Habimana noted that plans are already underway to find a replacement to work with head coach Godefroid Okoko. Mukura are in 8th position in the league table with six points after four rounds of matches.
