A modern workshop better known as Agakinjiro worth Rwf912 million, constructed in Kayonza District will begin operating by mid November.

The workshop has not been in use since completion of the construction works in April.

Speaking to The New Times, on Tuesday, John Mugabo, the district mayor said the place was still idle due to low electricity supply.

He said, "The electricity line supplying the hub is a single phase that cannot operate all the machines. But we have finalised negotiations with Rwanda Energy Group (REG) to establish a three phase line. We hope by November 15, the hub will be connected with a three phase line.”

"REG told us that supplying the hub with a three phased line requires Rwf38million. We secured the funds, I hope by the end of this month transmission activities will be completed.”

According to district officials, the modern workshop is expected to provide jobs to over 3,500 youth in the district.

Jean d’Amour Kalisa, a resident of Mukarange sector in Kayonza District said he has been waiting for the hub to be operational so that he can venture into welding.

He said, "After my secondary school, I didn’t qualify for a scholarship to pursue tertiary education. Having spent three years without a job, I decided to undertake a six-month training in welding. And, I am, ready to be a pioneer in this new workshop, I have my equipment ready.”

Juldas Kubwimana, another resident of Mukarage said the modern Agakinjiro will increase the clientele for his nearby shop, it is an opportunity to boost businesses, adding that they do not have many clients but hope for an increase as a result of the new workshop.
