BUGESERA—Health officials in Bugesera district have closed down a private dispensary in Ruhuha for lack of an operating license, poor sanitation.

District health official François Karambizi said the owner of the premises whose names was not easily identified and had failed to provide the ministry with an operation license.

During the inspection health officials found "worrying” sanitation conditions.

"The hygiene was pathetic, like it was not a health institution,” Karambizi said.

He said the owner denied admitting patients against the Ministry of Health regulations, yet area residents and other signs inside the dispensary suggested he was doing so.

Also closed during were three eateries and five hair salons, all lacking poor hygiene.

In a related development, Karambizi said he had given owners of business houses in Nyamata town up to one week to have their houses painted in a bid to give a new image to the town.

"We shall not tire to clamp down on business operators who do not meet the required health standards in order to combat diseases due to poor hygiene” he vowed.
