The national football team, (Amavubi Stars), which is in Rabat, Morocco for a ten-day training camp, will play two international friendly matches against Burkina Faso on Friday and Tunisia’s Olympic team on Sunday.
The friendly against Tunisia U-23 team replaces the earlier proposed friendly against Equatorial Guinea, which was initially set for October 13.
Johnny McKinstry’s team touched base in Morocco on Monday afternoon for a 10-day training camp — the team is residing at Oumlil Hotel in Rabat.
Since Tuesday morning, the team has conducted sessions of intensive drills as they prepare for Friday’s friendly against a Burkina Faso team made up of only home-based players.
The camp is being conducted in preparation for the 2016 (4th edition) Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) to be staged in Rwanda from January 16 to February 7, but also for the 2017 AFCON and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Rwanda was drawn against Libya in the first round of qualifiers of the 2018 World Cup to be held in Russia; the first-leg tie will be played on November 9 in Tunisia with the return leg encounter on November 17 in Kigali.
The Amavubi team that will face both Burkina Faso and Tunisia Olympic side boasts the likes of team captain Haruna Niyonzima (Yanga, Tanzania), Abouba Sibomana (Gor Mahia, Kenya), Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza (Azam, Tanzania) and Salomon Nirisarike (Saint Truiden, Belgium).
