Dutch topflight football club Feyenoord Rotterdam and the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) are in talks over a partnership in the development of youth football in Rwanda, Times Sport has learnt.

According to FERWAFA president, Vincent Nzamwita, Feyenoord, which is in second position in the Dutch Eredivisie after eight rounds of matches, will train Rwandan coaches, scout for talent and send the most promising youngsters to their academy if a deal is reached.

"The partnership will be focused on fostering technical assistance and youth training camps in Holland. They have previously provided this kind of assistance to Ghana, but for a fee. We are negotiating so that we can get it for free,” Nzamwita said.

Gido Vader, Feyenoord’s International Relations Manager echoed the same sentiments, adding that part of the club’s policy is to help clubs and Football Associations in different parts of the world with technical assistance.

Feyenoord Rotterdam was founded in 1908 and is one of the most successful clubs in the Netherlands, with 14 Eredivisie titles, 11 KNVB Cups and two Johan Cruyff Shields in its trophy cabinet.

Some of the prominent footballers who played for the club include Ronald Koeman, the coach of English Premier League side Southampton, Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat, Lazio central defender Stefan de Vrij, Porto right back Bruno Martins Indi, Southampton striker Graziano Pelle, and former Liverpool winger Dirk Kuyt.

Feyenoord is also known for its longstanding rivalry with Ajax, and any clash between the two biggest cities in the Netherlands is called De Klassieker (The Classic).
