Newly promoted Rwanda Azam Premier league side Bugesera FC head coach, Ali Bizimungu has complained of the congested football league fixtures which he said will wear out teams like Bugesera that have thin squads.  

Since the start of the 2015/16 season last month, clubs have been playing twice a week (mid-week and weekends).

In an interview with Times Sport, Bizimungu said that players need a minimum of 72 hours to recover from a match and short of that would result into fatigue and the risk of injuries.

"It is not easy to play two games in an interval of just 48 hours for a club like us (Bugesera) relying on a small group of players. When you factor in the fact that some games require traveling long distances, it seriously affects players,” said Bizimungu, adding that the big teams like APR, Rayon Sport are not affected by the fixture congestion.

However, Bizimungu is optimistic his side will fight hard to achieve their top 8 target despite getting 4 points from their first four games.

"Our first two games against last season’s league and Peace Cup champions, APR and Police were very difficult and we knew that there was a high chance of not getting any points but we recovered well to win one and also got a draw. That gives us confidence that we can still achieve our target,” the former Rayon Sport, Mukura and Kiyovu coach said.
