The Rwanda Rugby Federation vice president Alex Araire has heaped praise on Buffaloes top class performance during last week’s Priscloo Nakuru Sevens tournament held in Kenya.

Despite losing their opening pool B fixture against Kenya’s Impala 45-0, the national league champions who were one of the underdogs at the two-day event swiftly got themselves into the spot light after surprisingly storming the semi-finals.

Buffaloes bounced back from the Impala defeat with successive wins against Daystar University 26-0 and Africa Nazarene University 19-7 to set up a quarter-finals’ clash with Kabarak University.

Buffaloes inspired by their forward Vincent Kamali maintained their fairytale run  with a compelling 15-0 win over Kabarak.

However, that run finally came to an end after their semi-finals’ loss to Jommo Kenyatta University (JKUAT) 26-7 but for Araire, Buffaloes had proved a point.

"The players were fantastic. Getting to the semi-finals against more experienced Kenyan clubs is a great milestone. They did us (Rwanda) proud and we hope that they (Buffaloes) will carry on with the same tempo during the Hima-Mak 10s”.

"I think this performance is a big step forward for local rugby and we believe it has opened doors for more regional tournaments,” a delighted Araire continued.

Now, the Remera outfits are said to be building up for next month’s Hima-Mak 10s in Kampala, Uganda.

They are part of 24 clubs chasing for honors at the Shs 80m-rich two-day tournament.
