Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) will send four athletes led by Robert Kajuga to compete in the annual Dar Rotary half marathon which will be held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on October 14.

The quartet include; Kajuga and Pontien Ntawuyirushintenge in men’s category while Salome Nyirarukundo and Innocente Uwamahoro will compete in the women’s race.

Rwandan athletes will compete against other big names from Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Mozambique and Namibia.

On Tuesday, the General Secretary of RAF, Johnson Rukundo told Times Sport that it is a good opportunity for Rwanda athletes to prove themselves against the best in the region.

"This is a good opportunity for our athletes to show their capacity of competing at a high level. They will compete with other big athletes in the region, so they need to go and show what they have and win the prizes,” he noted.

The winner of the event will receive Tsh. 3 million (about Rwf1m), the second will be getting Tsh. 2 million while the third position will attract Tsh. 1 million and the fourth position Tsh. 100,000 in both categories.

The male representatives finished outside the medal bracket with Felicien Muhitira, Ntawuyirushintege and Eric Sebahire finishing sixth, seventh and ninth respectively in one hour and three minutes.

Tanzanians ensured a 1-2-3 finish led by Dickson Marwa, Islam Dzuma and Joseph Fabiona, all clocking one hour and two minutes.
