Rwanda will host the inaugural East African Corporate Football League in Kigali on the weekend of October 9-10. Eight teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, DR Congo and hosts Rwanda will participate in the tournament.
Rwanda and Uganda will be represented by two teams while other countries will send one team each.
Rwanda will be represented by Mulindi FC and Vision 2020. The matches will be played at FERWAFA ground, Mumena and Kicukiro stadium.
According to the event coordinator, Africa Ramba, the Corporate League is aimed at boosting social interactions, business networks and healthy living among the peoples of the regional countries.
"We have been engaging with regional football corporate teams over the last three years through friendly matches,” Ramba said during a press conference held on Tuesday at Amahoro stadium.
Adding that, "The success of these interactions has resulted in the creation of the East African Corporate League, a platform to drive the growth of these activities in the spirit of promoting social interactions.”
EACL, along with their lead sponsor, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), and other supporting partners, will donate food and consumables to refugees in Kayonza.
EACL evolved from friendly visits over the last three years where Uganda and Rwanda would host friendly football games based on fostering social interactions, business networking, team building, healthy living lifestyles and promotion of sports and tourism in the region.
This idea also resonates well with objectives of EAC integration.
