The National Commission against Genocide on Monday held a consultative meeting at Alpha Palace Hotel with leaders from Ministries, the Office of the President, the Senate and civil society to prepare an upcoming International conference on Genocide.
This was confirmed by the Commission’s Vice President, Christine Tuyisenge.
The conference will be held next year shortly after the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide of Tutsis, and is expected to take place either in Nyanza or Kicukiro districts.
"Now it’s up to the cabinet to come up with a final decision on where the venue of the conference will held,” says the Executive secretary of the National commission against Genocide, Jean de Dieu Mucyo.
The meeting proposed that the commemoration should be carried out in all Sectors so that debates on Genocide can be attended by as many people as possible.
Mucyo also lashed out at countries that have failed to arrest genocide suspects and send them to Rwanda.
The commemoration week in April 2009 will mainly focus on activities of supporting survivors of the 1994 Genocide and fighting against the Genocide ideology in the country and the region.
