SC Kiyovu new head coach Innocent Seninga is optimistic despite recording just two points out of a possible six leaving his side in the 12thposition in the Azam Rwanda Premier League table.
The Nyamirambo-based side were held to goalless draw away by the newly promoted Bugesera FC in their opening match of the season before another scoreless stalemate against Rusizi-based Espoir FC in midweek.
Nonetheless, despite failing to win any of the first two matches, Seninga, who joined the club less than a month ago from relegated Isonga FC, says he is confident of catching up with top clubs as he bids to improve on last season’s ninth place.
He said: "It is difficult to play their first two matches of the season away from home in a space of three days because the players have little time to recover from fatigue travelling from Nyamata to Rusizi (a seven-hour long journey.”
"Espoir FC’s ground was poor and caused us a lot of problems, and to even get a draw was a good as a result for us given the journey and the condition of the field,” Seninga told Saturday Sport.
The former Isonga FC coach noted that he is happy with squad he has and believes the players will get better as the season progresses.
"The players are confident and are adapting to my style of play, and hopefully, we shall get the first win in our first home match on Saturday against Amagaju,” added Seninga.
Amagaju FC are unbeaten with four points and are third on the league table following a 1-0 loss against newly promoted AS Muhanga on the opening weekend and a goalless draw to Gicumbi FC in midweek.
