Police in Kigali foiled two separate burglaries on Thursday night to send a stun warning against break-ins that have increased in recent past.

Two men were arrested in those separate incidents that happened in Nyarugenge and Gasabo districts.

Desire Ndabarushimana was pluncked out of the ceiling in a residential house in Kimironko Sector, Gasabo at about 11pm, while another suspect, Jean d’Amour Bajyimbere was caught red-handed trying to break into a residential home in Nyarugenge.

The suspects were identified and reported to Police by the would-be victims, according to Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, the Police spokesperson for the Central region.

Ndabarushimana and Bajyimbere were detained at Kimironko and Nyarugenge police stations, respectively, as investigations continued.

It is believed the suspects had targeted electronic gadgets, the most stolen items in house break-ins.

"We should be aware of what we can do to keep ourselves and our property safe, by cooperating with Police and sharing information in time. There should be collective efforts to fight such crimes in order to maintain peace and security in our communities,” said Supt. Mbabazi.

He also called on residents to strengthen neighbourhood watch mechanisms and night patrols, adding that Police networking with residents is a value addition to crime detection and prevention.

Early this month, Police arrested 20 notorious burglars said to have been behind a wave of theft of electronics in various Kigali suburbs.

Several recovered items that include; television sets and computers are stored at Kigali Metropolitan Police showrooms in Remera as officials wait for the rightful owners to collect them.

Police say victims should come with documents indicating that the recovered items actually belong to them.
