Men’s U-23 road circuit at 7:45pm

Rwandan cyclists Bonaventure Uwizeyimana, Jean Bosco Nsengimana and Valens Ndayisenga will be hoping to post an impressive performance in the men’s U-23 team road race today at the World Cycling Championships in Richmond, Virginia in USA.

The trio, who are competing at this international event for the second consecutive year, will be up against tough riders that boast of massive experience having competed in Grand Tours like the Tour de France but they insist this is motivation to spur them on to a good result.

Uwizeyimana finished 47th in the individual time trial on Tuesday after posting 41:43.81, 4:32.85 behind winner Wurtz Mads Schmidt of Denmark who won gold. Ndayisenga was 48th after he crossed the finish line after 41:59.06.

While both have already had a taste of the competition, Nsengimana will be taking to the course for the first time and will be hoping that they can pull off a good result.

Nsengimana said that, "We have trained well and feel good so we want to try our best and see to it that we perform very well.”

They will do 10 laps of a 16.2km circuit amounting to a total distance of 162.2km on an inner-city road circuit that is challenging and technical.

It is past the halfway mark of the circuit that has been dubbed tough as a twisty, narrow and cobbled 200m section climb is followed by a quick descent then three hard turns that lead to a 300m climb before the riders take a sharp left turn onto a false-flat finishing straight that is 680m to the finish.

However, the Rwandan riders who are used to the hills back home and have ridden on cobblestones in Rwanda will be hoping to use this experience to their advantage.
