Rwanda will host the 27th edition of the East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) senior club championship slated for December 6-12 in Kigali.
The regional championship will attract top clubs from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, DR Congo and South Sudan in both men’s and women’s categories.
The games will be hosted at three grounds including Kimisagara, Amahoro Stadium and College of Education (former KIE) in Kimironko.
In an interview with Times Sport, Rwanda Handball Federation (FERWAHAND) secretary general Jean Paul Ngarambe revealed that Rwanda will be hosting this annual tournament for the second time having hosted it in 2004 and revealed that a total of five clubs will represent the country.
"In the men’s category, Rwanda will be represented by Police, APR and Gicumbi while in the women’s category it will be Appega Gahengeri and ES Mukingi,” said Ngarambe.
He further revealed that a total of 19 clubs are expected to participate in the tournament.
According to Ngarambe, hosting this tournament will cost them around Rwf9m in preparing and improving the grounds.
Last year’s edition was hosted by Tanzania in Dar-es-Salam and DR Congo’s Police won both trophies in the men’s and women’s categories while Rwanda’s Police handball club finished fourth recording their best performance in the regional tournament so far.
