After two weeks of thrilling and captivating cricket, the Fina Bank schools cricket tournament is set to wrap up this Saturday at Kicukiro.

The day will start off with two semi-final games in the boys’ category. It will be shortly followed by a girls’ final before being finally crowned off with the boys’ final.

Tournament favorites ADB open the day’s action with a semi-final’s clash against defending champions Efotec, formerly ETO Kicukiro.

ADB’s surge for a maiden schools cricket title will be led by Rwanda’s international Andre Kayitera. The 20-year-old, arguably the best all-rounder in the country was very instrumental in ADB’s back to back wins over Kagarama and a Kigali Combined side in the pool stages.

Efotec also registered a compelling eight wicket victory over Lycee de Kigali last Saturday to set up a semi-final’s clash with Kagarama.

Chasing Lycee de Kigali’s score of 112, Efotec lost only two wickets enroute the target thanks to a quick 34run knock from Audfax Byiringiro.

In the other semi-final, Kagarama will clash with Apade after thrashing a Kigali combined side by 23 runs in their final pool tie.

In the girls’ category, defending champions Ndera and Kagarama will wrestle for the top prize.

After the pool stages, Emmanuel Byiringiro, the tournament coordinator has expressed his contentment about the level of cricket that has been exhibited in the tournament.

"The level of cricket in the tournament is very impressive. The fielding and bowling have been good. It’s only the batting that has been lucking a bit,” he said.

"But on a whole, I think the level of cricket this year is much better that what we saw two years ago during the first ever schools cricket tournament”

"The girls’ game has also improved a lot”. Fina bank, Computer Point, Amani Holdings and Magasin Faruki are all said to have bankrolled the event.
