Mukura Victory Sports stunned defending league champions APR 2-0 in the Azam Rwanda Premier League, yesterday, at Mumena Stadium.

Yusuf Habimana scored a long range shot in the 22nd minute before Christophe Ndayishimiye sealed victory in the 54th minute after miscommunication between central defenders Ismail Nshutiyamagara and new signing Faustin Usengimana.

Mukura dominated the game with brilliant performances from midfielder Muhadjir Hakizimana and left back Celestin Ndayishimiye.

Godfrey Okoko’s side looked the better side dominating and winning the ball back.

Okoko said that he was well prepared for the game, "We didn’t want to lose these points. My players were better everywhere. We dominated by winning the ball and attacking. I am thankful to my players who gave their best in the game.”

New interim APR coach Emmanuel Rubona told this paper that they made mistakes and they were punished for that.

Rubona further added that, "It is still early to judge me in my first match in charge but I have hope that we will bounce back. We are going to correct our mistakes and look forward to our next game.”

Mukura received three yellow cards for midfielders Jean Claude Zagabe, central defender Philbert Shyaka and goalkeeper Regis Shyaka.

In the other matches, Police beat Bugesera 3-0 with Hegman Ngomirakiza scoring in the third minute before skipper Jacques Tuyisenge and new signing Danny Usengimana added the second and third goals to earn three points at Kicukiro Stadium.

Elsewhere, Amagaju beat Muhanga 1-0 while Espoir was held to a 1-1 draw by SC Kiyovu.

Meanwhile, AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana is targeting his first league win when his team takes on Rayon Sports today at Muhanga Regional Stadium.

AS Kigali were held to a goalless draw against league entrants Rwamagana FC in their first league match on Sunday and will be looking for three points in today’s game.

Nshimiyimana made his title intentions clear and said, "We need to correct our mistakes and get three points against Rayon Sports. We know we are facing the best team in Rwanda with many fans but we are ready for the challenge. We know it will be tough but we will have a good performance.”

Newly appointed Rayon Sports head coach, David Donadei said he will aim to get many points early into the season.

"We are trying to play good football and win matches so it will be the same against any team. It is good to collect many points early because we will have a lot of matches ahead of us.” he said.

Elsewhere, Rwamagana will host Etincelles in Rwamagana at the Police Ground while Musanze FC host Gicumbi in Musanze.
