Kigali Golf Club team is in Uganda for the annual inter-club match play competition against their Entebbe Golf Club counterparts slated for today and tomorrow at the par-18 Entebbe golf course.

In an interview with Saturday Sport, Kigali Golf Club captain Anthony Olwit revealed that the tournament brings together only amateurs in a bid to enhance the existing good relationship between the two clubs.

He said, "We are sending a team of 15 players for the inter-club match play, which takes places twice a year (home and away) in February and September respectively.”

Kigali Golf Club won the first leg in February and will be seeking to complete a double over their Entebbe opponents.

He noted that the main objective for this competition between the two clubs is to make golf a tourism sport as well as creating a business partnership with business people on either side of the boarder through golf.

The trip comes three days after Kigali Golf Club hosted a team of eleven. Nigeria’s IBB (Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida) International Golf and Country club located in a similar competition which the home team won with a stableford score of 224 points against 184 points for the visitors played over two days.

In a separate interview, the Nigerian team’s captain, Oscar Abbo Hamid, revealed that, "We came to Rwanda from Uganda after visiting Kampala and Entebbe golf clubs but our time in Kigali has been wonderful and hope to come back again next year.”

At the end of the competition, it was confirmed that the Kigali team will also travel to Abuja next year in a reciprocal match-up.
