THE PREDICTOR: It’s a weekend of draws

Manchester City conceded for the first time this season and Manchester United went tambling. Arsenal, too, was beaten while stuttering Chelsea finally rediscovered the feeling of victory. That was in European engagements. Let’s see how these sides replicate their fortunes or otherwise from Europe into the domestic league.

SATURDAY

CHELSEA               2-2  ARSENAL       1.45pm

There are 21 questions to ask ahead of this crunch tie. Will Mourinho save his neck? Can Wenger turn around the midweek mess and win? Can Wenger beat Mourinho twice on the trot after the Charity Shield victory? When will Alexis Sanchez rediscover the form of last season? Can Chelsea end their domestic woes with victory without Willian and Pedro. The honours are even in a lot of ways. I smell a draw.

Villa     3-0           West Brom          4pm

Tim Sherwood was running nuts on the touchline. He still can’t believe his stooges bottled up a 2-0 lead at Leicester City to lose 3-2. Villa will have to arrest the rot once and for all. What better way to do it than at troubled West Bromwich Albion! The Baggies welcome back a sulking Saido Berahino as Villa are likely to recall Gueye back to enforce their midfield.

B’Mouth   2-2 Sunderland            4pm

Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat could be in trouble. The team just cannot win. Now they visit hard-fighting Cherries, who were done in at Norwich last weekend, losing 2-1 in a game they were comprehensively outwitted. Bournemouth will want to find their mojo right away against a Sunderland side that is looking more clueless than a lost cat.

NEWCASTLE    0-0    WATFORD         4pm

Let’s face it. The Magpies will be in trouble from now on if they beat Watford. Steve McClaren will have 50,000 Geordies at St James Park itching for a first win of the season against a side that shocked the odds by beating Swansea last week.

Swansea    3-3   Everton                4pm

International break doesn’t do any favours to on-form league players. They return and bore. Bafetimbi Gomis, Jefferson Montero and Andre Ayew have lit up Swansea but it is hard to see even the BPL player of the month in Ayew offering much. Slim win.

Saints    2-2    Man UTD                    4pm

The Saints have had a slow start but they are picking up. United are without former Saints defender Luke Shaw, who had a bad leg injury in midweek. This means Rojo could be recalled and the stable defence that Man United has enjoyed so far could be in jeopardy. It would even be a bigger trouble if Louis van Gaal decides to play Blind on the left rather than Rojo.
