Dusan Dule Suljagic has resigned as head coach of the reigning Rwandan league champions APR after six months in charge of the army side.

The Serbian tactician left the country yesterday aboard Turkish Airlines without informing his bosses about his departure.

He however mentioned to a close friend that his father was very ill but there was no official communication to the APR executive committee.

The army generals including club president Major General Jack Musemakweli and club secretary general Adolphe ‘Camarade’ Kalisa among others were left shocked last evening when they turned up for training and Suljagic was nowhere to be seen.

Assistant coach Vincent Mashami conducted training yesterday as the record champions prepared for their season opener against Etincelles tomorrow in Rubavu.

Mashami and goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha have been handed permanent jobs on the national team effective next week but will leave APR after tomorrow’s encounter.

Suljagic became the second APR coach to quit without informing his bosses beforehand after his fellow country-mate Ljubomir Petrovic who brought him on board last year left unannounced in February.

Suljagic led APR to their 15th league title before falling to Police FC in the Peace Cup semifinals following a 1-0 away victory, as they played out a goalless draw in the return leg.

APR then suffered a shocking 4-0 loss in the quarterfinals to debutants Al Khartoum of Sudan at the CECAFA Kagame Cup in July having finished finalists for two consecutive years in 2013 in Sudan and 2014 in Kigali.
