Police in Gasabo are holding two men accused of stealing and dismantling a Toyota Hilux belonging to one Landouard Harindintwari. 

The suspects, identified as Jean Karangwa and Sudi Ndereyimana, were apprehended on Saturday following a vehicle theft report filed by Harindintwari.

According to Harindintwari, the car was stolen from the parking lot at Voice of Hope radio station in Kacyiru, Gasabo District, at around 10am where he had gone to seek a service.

Harindintwari immediately alerted police officers who mounted investigations and found the car dismantled a few kilometres from the radio station.

"The victim filed the case around 1pm and by around 7pm we had found the vehicle and tracked down the suspected thieves. The suspects were dismantling the car and taking its parts to Biryogo suburb of Nyarugenge District,” according to the acting Central Regional Police spokesperson, CIP Richard Iyaremye.

The two suspects were at the time of arrest found selling the vehicle parts to one Emmanuel Minani, who owns a spare parts shop in Biryogo.

Police also apprehended Minani accusing him of being an accomplice in the crime for buying stolen items, Police said.

"The vehicle has since been reassembled and returned to the owner. We warn anybody who may involve themselves in this kind of malpractice that the long arm of the law will catch up with them. We also urge the public and businesses to avoid purchasing used items whose source they are not sure about because they may have been stolen,” Iyaremye said.
