KICUKIRO - United Nations Association-Rwanda (UNA-Rwanda) launched its activities in a two-day workshop held at the World Food Program (WFP) Headquarters in Kicukiro.

UNA-Rwanda is a non profit, voluntary community organization working for world peace and security, economic prosperity, clean environment and Human Rights through advocating for United Nations objectives as enshrined in the UN charter in Rwanda.

"We got the idea of forming the association in 2003 in Kampala,Uganda when we had been invited to attend the World Federation Academy which brings together all the United Nations Associations around the world,.” Jacky Kamanzi Masabo, the President and Legal representative of the association told The New Times.

According to Kamanzi, one of the association’s objectives is  to disseminate information on cooperation with the UN information centers whenever possible and also to mobilize public support for and popular participation in those UN programs in which citizens are expected to play a role.

"The workshop was organized to teach us how to make projects which benefit many people. We have also been taught to advocate for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) while supporting government’s development policies like the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS),” commented Geoffrey Mutabazi, one of the participants at the workshop.
