Re: "Meet 24-year-old Uwiragiye, the "ear” for the deaf” (The New Times, September 12).

It was very heartening to read that Kellia Uwiragiye, at a young age of 24 years, has founded "Media for the Deaf” when most youth of her age are busy building careers for themselves in the corporate world and looking forward to the luxuries and the pleasures  of today’s modern day living.

Kudos to Ms Uwiragiye for advocating that disability is not inability and for working towards the betterment of those with hearing problems!

The Rwanda Television programme, "Sign Your Name #SUN”, is indeed a great initiative.

Such media programmes will not only help in highlighting the challenges faced by our unfortunate brothers and sisters with hearing deficiencies, but will also further the cause of the deaf.

The interpretation services being offered by this organisation enables the deaf to participate in and follow proceedings events.

The passion and determination with which Ms Uwiragiye goes about her work will ensure that society not only accepts the deaf, but will also encourage them to cope with their disability and emerge victorious.
