Prices of food and other commodities prices have not changed in most markets and shops across the City of Kigali over the past few days.

Irish potatoes (Kinigi type) cost between Rwf300 to Rwf350, while the other types of Irish potatoes are at Rwf280 in Kimironko and Nyabugogo markets. The price of beef went up marginally to Rwf2,700 per kilogramme in Nyabugogo Market, up from Rwf2,400. It costs Rwf2,600 in Kimironko markets.

A kilo of peas costs Rwf1,600, dry beans are at Rwf600 per kilo and maize flour goes for Rwf700 per kilogramme, while a kilo of onions are at Rwf700.

The price of cabbages ranges from Rwf300 to Rwf500, depending on size, and avocadoes go for Rwf100 each.

The price of cassava flour is at between Rwf300 and Rwf450, while a kilo of rice ranges from Rwf750 to Rwf850 in most shops and markets across the city.

A bunch of bananas (plantains) ranges from Rwf6,500 to Rwf8,000, depending on size. A kilo of bananas goes for Rwf400 in most places and that of sweet potatoes is at Rwf220-Rwf300, while milk costs between Rwf300 and Rwf500 per litre in different trading centres across the city.

A bar of soap is at between Rwf500, a five-litre jerrycan of vegetable cooking oil is Rwf6,500, while bread (weighing 1kg) ranges from Rwf800 to Rwf2,000, depending on the brand, size and type and whether one shops in neighbourhood shops or supermarkets. The prices of sugar range from Rwf700 to Rwf850. Market vendors said the prices of some foodstuffs, including vegetables and milk are expected to reduce in coming weeks as rainfall increases.
