Newly promoted Bugesera FC will go into the 2015/16 Azam Rwanda Premier League, that starts on September 18, hoping to finish among top seven in the 16-team league.

This year’s second division league champions Bugesera earned promotion alongside Rwamagana City and head coach Ali Bizimungu says his team won’t be in the topflight division to participate but rather to compete.

The 2013 Peace Cup semi-finalists Bugesera FC, who claimed second tier title with 100% home record, will be looking to replicate that form when they begin their Azam Rwanda Premier League campaign at home to SC Kiyovu on September 18.

"The team had an incredible home record last season, so we want to replicate that sort of form, this time against the top clubs in the country, starting with Kiyovu on the opening day of the season,” Bizimungo said on Friday.

The former Rayon Sports and AS Muhanga tactician noted that, "Winning the first match would be a huge boost for us.” 

The Bugesera District-sponsored league debutants are one of the sides that were very busy in the transfer market that closed on September 9.

Their new signings include; Frank Makengo (free agent), Abouba Nshimiyimana, Jean Bosco Harerimana and Prince Mugabo from Etincelles, Jean d’Amour Munyabuhoro, from Marines, as well as Burundian striker Michel Ndikumana, from Vital’O.

For the first time in history, Rwanda national football league will have 16 teams in the coming season, two more than the usual 14 after securing a US$ 2.35 million (over five years) from Azam TV, a deal that also saw the championship renamed Azam Rwanda Premier League.
