THE Minister for Sports and Culture, Julienne Uwacu, has challenged the Amavubi Stars to go for a win when they meet Gabon in an international friendly match today at Amahoro National Stadium.
The game against Gabon comes just a week after Rwanda lost to Ghana 1-0 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier.
Minister Uwacu made the call when she visited the team’s training camp on Thursday. She said, "You’re representing the country, so you need to give your best on the field. This is the only way you are going to get good results.”
"We know it will not be easy but you have to give your best and I believe you can get a win against Gabon. You must put behind you the loss against Ghana and focus on the next game,” she told the players after Thursday’s training session at Amahoro National Stadium.
This will be the third time that Rwanda is meeting Gabon in warm-up matches. Gabon is ranked 63rd in the latest FIFA ranking while Rwanda is in 78th position. Gabon played a 1-1 all draw against Zambia on Tuesday.
The game against the hosts of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals Gabon is part of preparations for Amavubi CHAN team ahead of Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will be staged in Rwanda from January 16 to February 7, 2016.
