Parliament is today scheduled to elect a lawmaker who will fill the vacancy left by Celestin Kabahizi at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) following his resignation in June.

A statement from Parliament, yesterday, indicated that both Chambers of Parliament were set to convene today morning for the election.

Before joining the regional Assembly in October 2013, Kabahizi had been the Western Province governor for five years.

Before his resignation, Kabahizi was a member of the committee on regional affairs and conflict resolution and the committee on accounts in the legislative arm of the East African Community (EAC).
