Rwanda's inflation for August increased to 3 per cent, year-on-year, up from 2.3 per cent in July 2015, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), Consumer Price Index report released yesterday indicates.
NISR attributed the increase to the rise in prices of locally produced goods, which went up by 3.1 per cent year-on-year, and 1.2 per cent on a monthly basis. However, the inflation rate was unchanged at 0.9 per cent on a monthly basis compared to the previous month.
Lucie Mutetijabiro, the team leader at NISR’s price statistics and research unit, said the price index for imported products increased by 3 per cent when compared to the same period last year, and 0.3 per cent month-on-month.
This resulted into an increase of 2.7 per cent in annual underlying inflation rate, which excludes foodstuffs. The increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages was 2.6 per cent, according to the report.
