Rwanda national football team head coach Johnny McKinstry has summoned two central defenders Gabriel Mugabo (Police FC) and Soter Kayumba (AS Kigali) to join the Amavubi camp ahead of the friendly match against Gabon on September 12.

McKinstry called the pair to join the Amavubi who started training camp on Monday. The duo replaced APR skipper Ismail Nshutiyamagara and James Tubane of Rayon Sports after the former failed to report to camp without any reason while Tubane requested McKinstry to grant him permission to concentrate on his examinations.

Amavubi are training at the Kicukiro Stadium under the guidance of head coach McKinstry who is assisted by coach Vincent Mashami and goalkeepers’ coach Ibrahim Mugisha.

Amavubi will continue the training at Kicukiro today before returning to Amahoro National Stadium tomorrow afternoon and then Friday morning ahead of the Gabon match.

The warm-up match is part of Rwanda’s preparations for the upcoming 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will be held in Rwanda from January 16-February 7 while Gabon is preparing to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The two sides played two friendly matches last year with Rwanda winning both, thanks to goals from Jacques Tuyisenge in the first leg and Meddie Kagere’s lone goal in the second leg.
