Rwanda golf team have withdrawn from this year’s  Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Pro-Am tour finals slated for September 9-12 at Windy par 71 Nyali Golf Club in Mombasa, Kenya.

Rwanda has been competing in the regional tournament for the past nine years since its inauguration in 2006.

Speaking exclusively to Times Sport on Monday, the Rwanda Golf Union secretary general Dr. Davis Kashaka revealed that they have pulled out from the tournament due to financial constraints.

"Golf is an expensive sport, which needs much financial preparations and we have not been able to meet these expenses due the tax debts we owed Rwanda Revenue Authority that needed to be paid,” said Dr. Kashaka.

He added that following the closure of the golf club last month by RRA, the players, professionals and amateurs did not have where to train from ahead of the tournament.

He noted that, "The players didn’t get enough time to prepare but now our focus is the Africa Amateur Men’s Golf Team Championship (AAGTC) in October (also in Kenya) as well as the Rwanda Open and East African Golf Challenge in November.”

Four countries have so far confirmed their participation in this year’s ninth edition KCB Pro-Am tour finals, including Uganda who will be fielding six professionals, Tanzania 17, Zimbabwe 1 while the hosts Kenya will field a total of 42 professionals.

The prize money is Kshs.1.5 Million (about Rwf10.43m).
