Paralympian Hermas Cliff Muvunyi heads into the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville optimistic to retain the gold medal he won at the 10th All Africa Games years ago in Maputo, Mozambique.

The 27-year-old national champion Muvunyi claimed two gold medals from Maputo Games in the men’s 800m and 400m T-46 category but this year, the target is retaining the 400m gold as the 800m category has been removed from competitions.

Four more teams including NPC athletics, NPC power-lifting, tennis and cycling depart for Brazzaville this afternoon aboard RwandAir. The men’s indoor volleyball team as well beach volley (men and women), karate and taekwondo are already in Brazzaville.

Reigning World Champion in Men’s 800m T-46 category, Muvunyi said on Sunday that, "I am feeling great ahead of my title defense, I have been preparing for this event for two years and I hope the hard work will pay off.”

The athletics sensation Muvunyi whose competition is set for September 13 at the new Kintele stadium, has a personal best of 1:54:06 in 800m set at the 6th IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon (France) in July 2013.

Other members on the NPC athletics team include; Jean Claude Nzayisenga and Thomas Uwimana (blind) with Saidi Hamiss as their guide. The power-lifting duo comprise of Theogene Hakizimana and Vedaste Niyonzima.

The tennis team includes top two elites in both genders, Dieudonne Habiyambere and Olivier Havugimana as well as Meganne Ingabire and Gisele Umumararungu.
