RWANDA’S Dieudonne Disi repeated his 2007 heroics when he raced to sixth spot in the Men’s IAAF World Half Marathon Championships held on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Disi, who steered Rwanda to sixth overall position at Udine world championships, repeated the same feat over the weekend after clocking 1.03.03.

Eritrea’s Zersenay Tadese won the 21km world half Marathon championships for the third year in a row after clocking 59:56.

Another Rwandan, Sylvain Rukundo recorded his season’s best time after clocking 1:04:02 to finish 11th. Gervais Hakizimana finished 45th in a time of 1:07:57.

Disi pocketed $3000 for his effort while Rwanda men’s team also walked away with the same amount for finishing sixth overall.

In the women’s category, Angelline Nyiransabimana finished in a disappointing 26th spot despite recording her season’s best time of 1:15:23.

Lornah Kiplagat from Netherlands successfully defended her title.

Tadese won the first prize of $30,000 in a time of 59:56, nearly two minutes ahead of his closest challenger, Patrick Makau Musyoki (1:01:54) who was also silver medallist in 2007, with Qatar’s Ahmad Hassan Abdullah, the 2004 bronze medallist, taking third (1:01:57).

In the team contest, Kenya finished top while Eritrea and Qatar came in second and third positions.
