They say there is no easier way to communicate a message to the public than through music and that is what exactly telecom company Tigo Rwanda did as it launched its new slogan "Live it, Love it” and its trademark "Tigo Digital Tree”.
Hundreds turned up at the Amahoro National Stadium on Saturday to enjoy musical performances from a lineup of local artistes, including Bruce Melodie, Bulldog, Christopher, Queen Cha, Dream Boys, Active, Social Mulla and Davis, among others.
The concert was aimed at introducing the new slogan and the digital tree which will be providing free 3.5G WiFi connection and charging spots in public places and the telecom rebrands.
The show officially kicked off at 3pm with MC Tino and DJ Bissosso coming on stage to warm the crowd before the first artiste Queen Cha came on to do Kizimyamoto, followed by Social Mulla of the Abanyakigali fame.
The up and coming singer proved that he has what it takes to win crowds before he was followed by Danny Vumbi of Baragowe and Danger, who thrilled the audience.
Upcoming singer Davis then came on to do Shake your body and Biryogo before giving way to Christopher, one of the Tigo brand ambassadors, who also lived to the billing.
Rapper Bulldog again showed why he is loved with an ecstatic performance while Dream Boys, the other artistes with a contract with Tigo came on in full force. Yet it was Active who invigorated with electric dance moves.
The trio took their fans through their songs, accompanying them with great dance performances but it was Bruce Melodie who stole the show with impressive performance of Ndakwanga, Tubivemo, and Ntundize, which tickled the crowd into a sing-along session.
According to Pierre Kayitana, in charge of public relations at Tigo, the ‘Tigo Digital Concert’ was meant to reveal to the general public the new face of Tigo and other services they have for their clientele.
"As Rwanda aspires to be a ‘smart nation’ with a technology-based economy, we also want to play our part by just contributing to what the government is doing.”
"We have officially launched the Tigo Digital Tree where people will be able to access free wireless internet. So far, we have eight of them within different parts of Kigali. People will also be able to charge their phones from those ‘Tigo Digital Trees’ as we focus more on internet and digital services,” he said
Emmanuel Girinka, one of the people who attended the event, said it was a great experience to him to be part of the event.
"I really enjoyed the performances by Rwandan artistes and I also got to know where I can get access to free internet,” he noted.
During the concert, people were briefed how the free internet will be accessed.
