RWANDA’s Amavubi Stars are optimistic of their qualifying for chances the 2010 African Cup of Nations which will be held in Angola’s capital, Luanda.

In this regard, the local football governing body, Ferwafa has promised to do whatever it takes to help the country realize this dream.

Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa, said that the good working relationship between the federation and the Ministry of Sports and Culture has been instrumental in helping Rwanda reach the third and final round of 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifying campaign.

"The team (Amavubi Stars) went through comprehensive preparations for the first/second rounds. It was not as easy as many people may assume,” Kalisa said.

Kalisa was however quick to warn that the real task of qualifying lies ahead.

"We expect a tougher challenge in the third round, which leaves no room for relax. The team is going to start preparations for the third round right way.

"We have to double our efforts if we are to make it to Angola,” Kalisa added.

Rwanda reached the final qualifying round (third round) as one of the best runners-up following Morocco’s 4-1 victory over Mauritania in group eight.

After Ethiopia’s exclusion and Eritrea’s withdrawal from group 11 and 8, Fifa had to re-adjust the rules that defined the eight best second-placed teams in the second round of the African Zone’s preliminary qualifying campaign.

Ahead of the third round draws slated for October 24, Rwanda should only hope to be drawn in a relative by easy group.

Other countries that have qualified for the third round include; Cameroon, Kenya, Benin, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Rwanda, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Zambia, Togo, Malawi, Egypt, Guinea and Mozambique.

Should Rwanda reach the milestone, it will be the second time in their history after making their debut four years ago in Tunisia.
