I’ve been dying to ask all the married folks I know whether they would pay to have an affair. In case you don’t know what I’m getting at, it’s that “Life is short, have an affair” Ashley Madison website with millions of philandering married people.

I don’t even know where to start. Politicians, high ranking officials, businessmen and even churchgoing Christians! I’m not judging but good Lord, aren’t we grateful for hackers? How else would we learn secrets like these? If I were married, the last thing I would want my partner to do is pay to cheat on me.
That is just wrong. You have to forgive my stereotyping but there are not many women who would go out of their way to subscribe to websites like Ashley Madison. It’s mostly men and you can fact check that.
Many of those who’ve been outted so far have been male and I know many of you are thinking, well, how about the women they had or plan to have affairs with? Good question I guess but today is not the time to answer that.
Ashley Madison is something men typically do and perhaps we shouldn’t even be surprised by the sordid revelations. Men have always used money to entice women, from the all too common office scenario where guys flex to buy the hot girls lunch or queue up to take them for coffee, to the men who lure other people’s wives with lavish presents. We can’t forget the Sugar Daddy syndrome that has left many young girls either pregnant or exposed to HIV.
I watched girls at university sell their "cookies” for furniture and TV Sets and I wonder if they look back now and believe it was all worth it. From what I read in magazines and leisure columns, things haven’t changed much and rich men still flock to universities to woo young impressionable female students.
There’s also polygamy. The practice of taking on a second and even third wife has become the norm. Both my paternal and maternal grandfathers were polygamous and so were their brothers. I love all my cousins from these unions but you have to feel for the wives.
I don’t know if I would stay married to a man knowing he had two other women, possibly more. Sometimes you just know what you can and can’t put up with. The funny thing is that no one expects women to have multiple partners and those who happen to do are frowned upon.
Ashley Madison has taken cheating to a whole new level and sadly, more shady platforms are going to sprout and trust me, there are so many cheaters out there who don’t mind splashing the cash for some thrill. I hope they are exposed in time too and I hope the long suffering wives take half of that wealth.
What would be interesting are the men who don’t pay the bills and yet spend dollars on these sites. If you’re not supporting your family as you should, you shouldn’t be out committing adultery, which is what all this really is.
