Rwanda finished on top of table standing after amassing seven points following two wins, a draw and loss, ahead of Uganda and Kenya, who had five points after they both settled for a goalless draw in their final game yesterday.
This brings to three the number of gold medals Rwanda has won at the regional event that attracted teams from hosts Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. Rwanda won gold in basketball and handball earlier this week.
On Monday, RDF also won the handball and basketball titles. The handball team claimed the gold medal with six points out of a possible eight after losing only one game – against Tanzania – having earlier overwhelmed holders Kenya, Uganda and Burundi.
In basketball, Rwanda clinched gold with seven out of eight points, having won three and lost one game – against Burundi, who finished second while in athletics cross country, RDF won the bronze medal, behind winners Kenya and Uganda, who took second place.
The ninth Annual East African Military Games and Cultural Event kicked off on August 16 and ended yesterday at Mandela Stadium Namboole in Kampala.
The next edition will be staged in Rwanda next year.
